Effortless Beach Waves on Natural Hair

By BrownFace · April 15, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I know I've been posting a lot of videos lately, but I've just been seeing so many good things. This young lady's hair ROCKS!!! You can do anything with natural hair that you can with a relaxer.

Fablicious Bantu Knot Out on Natural Hair

By BrownFace · April 14, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

The Bantu Knot Out (or as we Jamaicans like to say China/Chiney Bump), is one thing I'm ashamed to say I have not yet tried on my natural hair. Not sure what the case is? Actually, I am. I'm scared it wont look or turn out right. Twists and braids are pretty much predictable, so I usually stick with them. I do LOVE how the young lady in the video's hair turned out. So full and bouncy, I just had to post! Okay, the style is on my TO DO list come mid May! I'm still in protective styling mode. No hair out till then.

Hair Rules Kinky to Straight

By BrownFace · April 12, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Hmmmmmmmm, has anyone out there in blog land tried the Hair Rules products. Funny enough, I've never been interested until watching this video. What particularly caught my eyes (or should I say ears) was the blow out cream, which the narrator stated had no silicones. I've never heard of a product for straightening without silicones? I feel a purchase coming on...lol

On another note: How the heck did she get that blow dryer to go thru those kinks so easily?? My hair would LAUGH!

IMATS Debuts in New York City

By BrownFace · April 8, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

What are YOU doing this weekend? Going to the IMATS, I hope! I’ve always wanted to check out the International Makeup Artist Tradeshow and they have finally brought it to New York. The vendor/exhibitor list is a little shorter than the shows in LA or London, but it’s their first time in the Big Apple. Tickets are already sold out for Saturday, so if you plan on attending, I would do it as soon as possible. I’ll be there on Sunday because I procrastinated with purchasing my tix. Oh well, I’ll still be in attendance. If you’re not in the NYC area, IMATS has shows all over the country. Click here to see where they are showing up next and to view the show schedules.

If you are in the NYC area, but can’t make this show, remember that The New York Makeup Show (which has a multitude of vendors and discounts for professional make-up artists) will be held on May 15 & 16.

Tried True and Reviewed - Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara

By BrownFace · April 4, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Product Description (taken from Sephora.com)

Phenomen'Eyes Mascara

What it is:
A revolutionary new mascara designed to grip at lashes starting at the roots.

What it does:
Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara perfectly curls and separates lashes. It has a high-tech, patented round sphere at the tip of the precision wand that reaches every lash and adapts to all eye shapes.

What else you need to know:
The result? A beautifully fanned-out panoramic effect, holding the curve of your lashes perfectly in place.

My Quickie Review

Pro: For women (or men) with scanty lashes you can get to each and every one with this brush. It lengthens and darkens lashes.

Con: The price point at $30

Would I buy again: Yes, when mortgage is not due.

Alternative: Loreal has a mascara with the same type of round brush/wand. I have not tried it yet, but soon will to compare it to this one.

How many stars? 4 out of 5 stars

Comments: Zoomlash mascara by MAC is still my favorite mascara of all time. I have found nothing yet to replace it, but this mascara is worth a go when you want to define every lash and treat yourself.

What I Would Have Worn

By BrownFace · March 31, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I just saw this pic of Solange online and had to post. If I was still in my twenties, I would be all over this look! The hair is of course FABLICIOUS! The colors of the outfit (in the words of mentor in my head Rachel Zoe), I DIE! Actually, I can rock this outfit now in my thirties, I would just have to adjust the length of the top. Or maybe not J. Tribal prints are so on trend this season.

As I stated previously on my blog, Solange is quickly becoming a Style Icon for me.

What I Would Have Worn

By BrownFace · March 23, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Okay, so I need to find a flare leather skirt with the QUICKNESS!!! I have one that I bought from the GAP years ago, but it is more of a pencil fit. Will check the vintage and thrift shops, once my shopping freeze is over. WHo am I kidding, I'm going to a thrift store TONIGHT...lol

Folake from Style Pantry.

Let's get a close-up of that necklace, shall we?

What I Would Have Worn

By BrownFace · March 16, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

If I could have cropped Kim out, I would have. Although, I would have left the hat. Now on to Kourtney, who is actually my favorite of the sisters. The whole outfit from the turban to the jeans......FIERCE!!!!! She just reminded me that I have a fur (fake) jacket in my closet. Too bad it's starting to warm up out here in the east, would have broken it out...oh well.

Tried True and Reviewed - Tangle Teezer

What I Would Have Worn

By BrownFace · March 9, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Okay, so as you can see below, that is NOT me. Since I haven't figured out my not-so-new camera as yet and it's still so frigid in the northeast to even think about taking pictures, I'm gonna post pics of What I Would Like to Wear or just very fashionable people in my eyes. Hopefully, the What I Wore Wednesdays posts will resume shortly.

I don't know who this is, but she is FAB Freaking Fierce.

Dress looks vintage, the shoes and that bag are to die for and the middle part in her hair gives the illusion of an uber chic bun at the back of her head. For all we know this could be a short do, slicked back...lol

Pimpin or B**** Slap?

By BrownFace · March 8, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Ummmm, hmmmmm, okayyyyyy??? I think Eva is one of the most beautiful girls (people in general) EVER! What do we think about this platinum blonde?? Can the beauty carry this look? Y'all already know I love people who are not afraid, but I'm not sure if I like it or not?? On one hand it's kinda fierce, but on the other hand, all I can think: Is all her hair gonna be on the floor tomorrow???? Black Barbies DO exist! Loving the eyelashes and pink lips, by the way.

What say you?

And another one...

But I already know she needs a B**** Slap! Makeup is puuuurty, though. Just needs darker locks.

The Blues Have It

By BrownFace · March 5, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

So much for posting every week..lol????? Hope everyone is well.

Anywho, I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, this past weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. I did get to catch up on my favorite blogs and youtubers. Coloured Beautiful is just what she is. A BrownFace Beauty that loves color?? RIght up my alley. Watch as she gives us a PHENOMENAL blue look. I definitely need to recreate this.

I'm Back and MAC Peacocky Collection

By BrownFace · January 25, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

It's been a long time since I left you, without a dope post to read to...lol Happy New Year Everyone!! I hope all is well and I hope all are enjoying the blessings of the new year. I just got back from Puerto Rico with my job (also, hubby came to meet me so we could have a few days to relax and suck up some sun). Anywho, I know I have not posted in a long while and hopefully this year, I will try and post at LEAST once per week. Let's start off with one of my favorite make-up brands: MAC.

To be honest, before this recent purchase (two weeks ago), I had not bought anything from MAC in like three months. I feel like I have so much make-up and don' t use it and I also felt as if the collections MAC came out with since, were very ho-hum. MAC Peacocky being the exception. As soon as I saw the eyeshadows from this one, I just knew I had to have some.

From MAC:

We fetishize the exotic peacock as a symbol of extreme beauty, raging against everything simplistic. New Kissable Lipcolour combines full flash with creamy comfort. Mega Metal Shadow gleams like chrome - yet is creamy, crease-resistant, with vitamin-fortified flexibility. Dramatic doesn't even begin to describe the girl who knows she's Peacocky.

What I Got:

From left to right: Noir Plum (purple with silver pearl), Centre Stage (frosted chocolate brown), Paparazz-she (coppery bronze), Unflappable (frosted black with purple pearl).

The fluidline and the mascara are from the Stylishly Yours collection. They are both a burgundy/brown color that compliment each other.

These shadows known as Mega Metal Shadows (think back to StarFlash shadows) are larger than the normal ones at MAC and of course they cost more, as well. With the exception of Noir Plum, I didn't have anything else like the other colors in my collection. Actually, even the purple is a bit different from ones that I currently have. This collection also premiered some new kissable colors, which I didn't get. I may run back to pick up one, but from the reviews and swatches I've seen weren't anything to boast about.

Pics taking with my new Canon Power Shot via the hubster!

What did YOU get?

WTF? My MAC 109 Brush

By BrownFace · November 16, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

Ummmmm, hmmmmmm, okay, where do I begin? What you are looking at right now is my beloved MAC 109 brush. I use this brush for a good bit of things: blending my foundation, applying foundation, blush and sometimes powders. I went to beat my face for work yesterday, took a look at myself and wondered why I looked like a burn victim (like five shades darker – no joke). I thought maybe my eyes were deceiving me. I know I washed the brush, but even still my face should not have looked as it did? So, I decided to wash the brush again, and again, and again, and again. The blue stuff you see on this paper, is nothing to the blue black stuff that kept rinsing from my brush? I am not sure what happened? Aren’t MAC brushes supposed to last at least 10 years? Why is the brush, now doing this? I’ve had it for over two years and this something you would expect to see in the beginning. This brush was NOT cheap and is a natural fiber brush? Hmmmmm. Guess who will be heading to MAC today to complain and see if I can get a new brush.

Has this happened to anyone else? I’m very disappointed. Thank goodness I always check myself out before I leave the house…halloween was two weeks ago.

Music Mondays: When A Woman Loves

By BrownFace · November 1, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

When I heard this song playing on the radio a few weeks ago, I instantly fell in love. Actually, I fall in love with anything R. Kelly does. I think he was my first serious musical, celebrity crush back in the 90's. You couldn't say nothing bad about R. Kelly. Not sure where he is with his case/trial, but he looks hella good and again I LOVE THIS SONG!! When's the album Robert?

Lanvin for H&M (late)

By BrownFace · October 26, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

One of the negatives about living in NYC is that it is a fashion capital (ummm, for people like me, this is also a MAJOR plus). The only reason I say ‘negative’ is because when designers make collections for stores like H&M, there is usually nothing left three minutes after it debuts. Now, one of the good things about living here in Philly is that people are not at all as fashion obsessed (with the exception of myself, of course, but I’m a native New Yorker). So, what does this all mean? Lanvin will be coming to H&M November 23 and I’m excited because 1) I will be able to for once see the actual collection and 2) for once buy what I might like.

From H&M:

“We are thrilled about Lanvin’s collection for H&M, it is such an exciting moment. Lanvin will bring to H&M a luxurious French tradition that is also modern and playful. It is very much a Lanvin collection, using their cut and tailoring, with lots of focus on form and details for both women and men. The launch in November is going to be full of wonderful surprises.” Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M.

Lanvin is the latest brand to collaborate with H&M, with previous collections designed by the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Comme des Garçons and Sonia Rykiel. In a new twist, the Lanvin for H&M collection will be revealed to the world through a special film which will be launched on November 2. The film will be available for all to see online at www.hm.com. Following the film’s debut, it will be just three weeks before customers have the chance to get their hands on a covetable piece of Lanvin for H&M.

The Perfect Boot - Wish List

By BrownFace · October 21, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

My search continues for the perfect color boot (with perfect heel height - a sistah is getting old), that can be worn with most pieces in my wardrobe. The color I’ve settled on is Taupe, which I’ve been trying to find for the longest time, but nothing I’ve seen has me dying and going to fashion heaven. Actually, even a nice blue/navy will suffice). Here are a few I’m feeling, that I’ve found on online.

A&M Fancy $298

Jeffrey Campbell $226 ( the color says taupe, but wish they were a little darker)

Here they are in blue (LOVES)

Jeffrey Campbell $179 (Moptop Maven has a pair in black)

Kelsi Dagger $200

Kelsi Dagger $209

Le Pepe $378

Giuseppe Zanotti's $1,196 - IN MY DREAMS!!!!! That's a mortgage payment. They are HAUTE, though!

Fabulosity Defined (I Love Your Style)

By BrownFace · October 14, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

It's not often that I want to emulate someone's style, because personally I think mine is pretty fab. So, when I came across this young lady's blog/site, I was so surprised that I wanted to rip every item she had on, right off her body for my own wardrobe. I'm not even sure how I found her. It was probably from going from one blog to the next I'm sure, because this is how I happen on all my favorite blogs. Her site, for me, is now a must everytime I log on to a computer. Another FAB thing about her: SHE HAS THREE KIDS!!! Kudos to anyone who can WUUURK like this with three children....PHENOMENAL! I'm too tired to put gloss on sometimes in the morning, with no kids. Anyway, here are just a FEW (there are too many) of her stylish outfits. I see you drooling...lol

I'm not gonna even touch on the fabulous hair. Hmmmmm, I see a wig purchase in my future.
