Happy New Year and Where I've Been

By BrownFace · February 4, 2013 · 0 Comments ·

<span style="font-size: small;">I'm about a month late, but better late than never...HAPPY NEW YEAR! I have been uber busy the last few months.  For those of you who don't know, after seven painful years of struggling with infertility, I HAD A BABY!  God is good all the time and all the time God is good!  So, I've been getting used to my new life as a mom.  My little miracle baby was born on my birthday (God gives the best gifts, no?), September 6, 2012.  I was home for four months, but didn't have time to do anthing but cater to my little one.  I just went back to work about a month ago.  Working, being a mom, trying to lose this baby weight and being a wife, doesn't leave room to do anything else.  I do miss blogging and making videos for my Youtube channel and I am going to try my best to fit that back in.  Just wanted to check in and say I'm alive and hope you all are ready for an EXCITING year!

</span>FYI - I've been considering moving this blog to another host.  Stay tuned...

Stay Fab Freaking Fierce!

Happy Birthday to Me: A Birthday Haul

By BrownFace · August 30, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

My birthday is in one week.  Every year, I treat myself to birthday gifts.  Yes, plural, meaning multiple.  I'm as big as a house, but still found my way into Zara for their sale.  I LIVE for Zara sales! Oh, I also LIVE for anything animal print (see below).  It's one of the best neutrals for the wardrobe. Every year I become OCD with an item of clothing.  Last year it was jeans: high-wasited, skinny, flares, bell-bottoms.  You name it (I can't fit not one now *sigh*). This year it has been all about the jackets.  Can't wait to put looks with these items together in the coming months.

ZARA tiger print jacket with lapels: I was stalking this jacket since it appeared in the store.  It was originally $129, then I bought it for $69, saw it on the website for $49, bought it (no tax or s&h fee..woohoo), then returned the original.  Yes, I will do ANYTHING to pay as little as possible...lol

Cheetah print jersey jacket $39

Yellow and black boucle jacket $39

Not sure what this material is and it looks better on, than laying on my couch. I can see this in heavy rotation in my wardrobe, Spring or Fall, and it's GOLD! I paid $49

Yellow elastic waist dress $19.  I may have to wear this with tights. Did I state that I have been having real OCD with yellow these days?

Zara patent leather sandals $19

Dolce Vita suede platforms.  These were a steal at Macy's.  Originally $89, my price was $22. I have over close hundred pairs of shoes, but I believe these are my first pair of DV's.  Exciting....

Gold chunky necklace from Macy's $24. Not sure if I'm gonna keep this purchase.

Baby Steps Series - Episodes 1 & 2

By BrownFace · August 29, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

Before I begin, I know I said I would no longer post on this site.  I lied...lol  Please bare with me.  Posts will resume her until I figure out a plan and what site works best for me, right now.

If you follow me on youtube (or are a close friend) then you already know of the issues my husband and I have had conceiving a child. I decided to document a new series named 'Baby Steps' which is the journey in my seventh year of trying to have a baby.  I didn't know what the outcome would be, but I knew I wanted to enciourage women (and men) who were struggling with the issues of infertility.  Here are the first few episodes.

Thrift Haul: Bags, Bags and More Bags

By BrownFace · July 30, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

Hey guys. Sadly, this will be my last post on this blog site. It is getting too complicated to use, so come check me out over on blogger at The Brownfacebee. Same great content, just new look and site.  At this moment and in the coming months, my life has to be about ease and efficiency.

There used to be a large furniture shop around the corner from me, that has since closed and vacant for the last year.  I drove by a few months ago and noticed that it is now a THRIFT store!  Be still my heart.  It's literally in walking distance which is no beuno for me and my pockets.  They had clothes, bags , shoes and a lot of furniture (hmmm, I wonder if they were pieces that never sold in the old store).  Didn't find anything in the clothes section (rather couldn't fit), so I went over to the bags and accessories.  I got three bags and two pairs of earrings for $11!

The last two bags were bought on seperate occasions.  The animal print bag I saw on a street corner while driving home from work and did a u-turn to cop it (adventures of a shop-a-holic). The guy charged me five bucks for it and claimed it was real fur...don't think so but love it regardless.  The last bag I got for a $1 at my thrift store down the block and I wear it ALL the time.

Burgundy vintage bag with gold handle and strap

Cream and white, fabric and (p)leather bag

Black (p)leather detail back with chunky handle and long strap.  I ADORE this bag so much.

Cheetah print fur bag

My $1 straw bag.  It's huge and perfect for Summer outings.

Each pair was a $1.

Being Fashionable does not have to be expensive.

Stay FAB FREAKING FIERCE! And check me out at the new BrownFace BEE.

Tried True and Reviewed - Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow

By BrownFace · June 27, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

Left to Right: Painted Purple, Tough As Taupe,  Edgy Emerald

What It Is?

• Ink technology creates 24HR wear shadow for our most intense, long-lasting color saturation
• Cream formula glides on without creasing and keeps color vibrant

• Ophthalmologist-tested.  Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers

Pros: Can double as an eyeshadow or an eyeshadow base; stays on for hours even on oiler skin; ten shades to choose from

Cons: they are usually always sold out at my local drug store; of the colors, the purple could have been a bit more vibrant

Alternative: MAC Paints have been my go to for lasting eyeshadow bases, but the price point is double that of the Maybelline Color Tattoo

Would I buy again: Yes, I would, but I anticpate these lasting a long time so no need to re-up anytime soon

Comments: I am not a woman that shops drugstores for make-up (hair products, yes).  I'm a bit of a snob in that area, but I just had to try these and I'm glad I did.  Very good buy for those who are on a budget and love color.

MAC Fashion Sets

By BrownFace · June 4, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

I have been on a serious shopping freeze for most of this year.  Before I purchased the glosses below, I don't think I stepped in a  MAC store in months.  I'm trying to save a certain amount of dollars (I made my goal the week before last by the way) and nothing was going to get in my way...lol  Anywho, this mini collection was kind of exciting for me.  These Fashion Sets include corresponding gloss, lipstick and nail colors.  Since I'm not a huge fan of MAC nail polishes and most of the lipsticks in this collection are permanent, I immediately purchased the lipglosses that would be LE (limited edition) items.

What I Got....

Left to Right: Impassioned Lipglass, Chestnut Lipglass, Morange Lipglass and Rebel Lipgass

I really would like one more colored gloss, Angel.  I was a big fan of the lipstick back in my clubbing days and I think I want to revisit. I'll try and upload how the colors look on my actual lips.  So far, Impasioned and Rebel are my absolute FAVS!

Check out the full collection and other colors at MACCOSMETICS.com

My First Wash 'n' Go - Natural 4b Hair

By BrownFace · May 14, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

This Wash 'n' Go was filmed August last year and I haven't done it since, but it's starting to warm up so best believe I will be doing it again.  It was one of the easiest styles I've attempted since I've been natural.

Kim and Kourtney Take New York - My Thoughts

By BrownFace · February 1, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

Happy New Year Everyone!  I know, I know, a month too late...lol  Anyway, I hope you guys are healthy, blessed and are looking forward to the amazing things of this new year.

Okay so let's get to it.  Before this show aired, I had not really paid attention to the Kardashians.  I didn't care.  In a way, I still don't.  BUT, I really wanted to watch Kim and Kourtney Take New York, to see what makes Kim Kardashian so popular and maybe take a glimpse into her sham of a marriage to Kris Humphries.  Actually, I think the ONLY time I've discussed Kim, is when I heard that her 'marriage' was ending.  I was a bit outraged for someone who didn't care?  I think it was because she made a mockery of marriages, everywhere.  On that note, the show confirmed that Kim is a publicity whore (I know I'm late, but as I said I never paid attention).  She could have saved those tears in the last two episodes about rushing into things (yada, yada), because I wasn't buying it.  I am the first person to give someone the benefit of the doubt, but this was just too much.  Kris was/is a big goofball and obviously immature; so not ready for marriage.  Kim was just annoying and she nitpicked about everything.  She is not ready to be tied down and so not ready to have anyone else in her life right now, besides family and the media.

Look, the real stars of this show were Scott, Kourtney (the prettier and BEST dressed of the three sisters in my opinion) and little Mason.  I love their relationship! It seemed the most real.  Even if not, they had me cracking up everytime they were on screen.  Can they get their own show, please?

Well, that's it for me folks on this subject.  Will I watch this show again?  Not sure.  More Kourtney, less Kim, then hell to the yeah.

Dare To Be You

By BrownFace · December 19, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

OMG, I have been gone for a little bit and was planning to stay away until after the holidays until I saw this video.  Sug betta preach!  I saw a poster on Facebook that read 'Stop Trying To Fit In, When You Were Born To Stand Out'!  I printed it out and posted it in my cube.  It's my life's motto.  Anyway, if I don't get back on here before the year is out, HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all of you.  And a special shout out to my King, who turns 39 on New Year's Eve.  Enjoy the vid!

Thrift Shopping

By BrownFace · December 6, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

A couple of weeks ago, whilst hubby was out, I decided to walk down the block to this little Jewish church that has thrift items for sale.  They are always out there from 9-2, but up until recently I never went in.  I mean, a church with thrift items?? Thoughts can be deceiving. This is the second time I have come out of there with some pretty fabulous pieces and the only thing that held me back from buying more, was lack of cash.

I LOVE color: Shirt $2

I originally picked this up in yellow, but figured I could do more with the pink: Sweater $1

C'mon you know I couldn't leave this vintage piece behind AND it had a belt?!: Vintage wool cape $8

This was my hot ticket item.  It looks even better in person.  I know a little old rich, Jewish, woman had this in her closet at one point in time, but now it's mine.  The buttons are so fab: Jacket $6

Natural Hair: Pumpkin Bun

By BrownFace · November 21, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

If you've been natural for awhile, you know that there are more than a few days that we fall into 'styling' ruts!  Mine usually come during the colder months when I still wanna be cute, but have to take into account protective styling (cold weather is brutal on kinkier textures like mine).  I came across this video on youtube and I think it's a MUST try and it seems pretty simple to do.  Although, I don't think my hair will french roll all that easily like hers did.  My hair is muey rebellious...lol  I'm still gonna try.  Very nice for the upcoming holidays.

Tried True and Reviewed - Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes

By BrownFace · November 14, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

What is it?

Yes To Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes gently remove dirt, sweat and makeup (eye makeup too!) without the need to rinse. Whether you're out and about, going for a run, or having a late night, these towelettes make it a snap to refresh on-the-go. Packed with green superfoods these all-natural, biodegradable towelettes naturally exfoliate, detoxify, and rejuvenate all-in-one. Stay gorgeous, and go from zero to clean in seconds!

BB's Review

Pro: Natural/Organic, soothing, these wipes remain moist till the very last one, priced at $5.99, can be found in local drugstores, can reapply makeup with no issues

Con: You need about two wipes to remove all your makeup

Would I buy again: HECK YEAH!  The price is amazing and y'all should know how I feel about natural and organic beauty items

Alternative: Korres also has natural wipes in their brand, but they are more expensive and dry out fairly quickly

How many stars? 4 out of 5 stars

Comments: I'm still pretty dedicated to MAC's make-up remover wipes, but from all the other brands I've tried (and there have been many), YTC comes in a close second.  Both brands will remain in rotation in my beauty bag.  Sadly, I just can't shake MAC's wipes.

P.S. I'll be doing more reviews in the future.  I've been sent many items and have been picking up things here and there.  It's about time, don't ya think?

Tracee Ellis Ross - Fashion for Reed Between The Lines

By BrownFace · November 4, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I came across this video of Tracee Ellis Ross taking us inside the closet of her character in her new show, Reed Between the Lines.  I absolutely ADORE Tracee's style!  She is one my fashion icons, if not my favorite.

On another note, what are we thinking about the show? I've been watching it faithfully and it had me laughing in a couple episodes.  I think it needs a bit of tweaking, but I really want it to do well.

What I Wore - Outfit of The Day

By BrownFace · November 3, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

For some reason, this outfit looked better in my head than they do in pictures? Oh well. These jeans were a SCORE from Anthropologie. Jeans I had been stalking for months, but what's new...lol.  Originally they were $198 and I got them for...........$19!  You can't see it but they are actually high-waist, bell-bottom jeans.  I had to hem them because I thought they were too long. I think I will pull it out because I think NOW, they are too short??

Top: Vintage/Thrift, Jeans: Adriano Goldschmied Farrah Jeans, Shoes: Lucky Brand, Hat: c/o Daffy's

Love Me Some Beyonce

By BrownFace · October 31, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I must be living under a rock?  It took me digging thru youtube on a rainy Saturday evening, sans hubby, to find out that my bestie-in-my-head had premiered three new videos?  C'mon, y'all should know by now, I ADORE me some Beyonce.  Like her or not (better nobody say nothing bad about Beyonce), other than Oprah, she's the hardest working woman in show business.

Sidebar:  Her sis Solange's style has been seriously giving me life these days! Is it just me?

Versace for H&M

By BrownFace · October 27, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Is there any need to further this post?  The title says it all!  I had an OMG! moment when I first found out.  Versace is BOLD.  It's Bright, It's DARING (have you seen Donatella's face?).  Although the line is set to be sold in over 300 stores, what saddens me is that I'm not sure if any of the Philadelphia stores will see this collection.  Last year a friend and I went to check out Lanvin, got to the store and there was no Lanvin in site.  Good news though, this collection will be available online November 17.  If you head over to H&M.com, you can enter to win a trip to NYC for an exclusive viewing party.  I'm heading over there as soon as I finish typing this post.

"The collection for H&M is the essence of Versace. For the collaboration we've brought back from the archives, as well as from more recent collections, some of the icons of Versace, such as the bright prints, the Greek key and daring cuts. I can't wait to see how H&M's wide audience will make these pieces their own," says Donatella Versace. - c/o Vogue.co.uk

Winter Hair Part 1

By BrownFace · October 24, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I've been obsessed with wigs (ummm, before they became muey popular), for years now.  I think it's one of THE best ways to change up your style, length and/or color.  Wigs are also a great way to protect your hair from harsh winters (when rocked correctly).  Braids are another great alternative, but sometimes,I don't want to be in it for the long haul...lol  Anywho, I've been searching for a new wig for this winter and wanted to kind of stay away from the curly do's.  I have too many of those and just bought another one.  For this go round, I want something kinda straight with waves to it, since I've been missing my relaxed hair for a minute now.  I was thinking about purchasing this lace front GLS50 from FridayNightHair (mind you I purchased a wet-n-wavy from them last year and NEVER wore it...I'm a hotMESS.net), then came across this video from PhillyDiva19154.  SOLD!!!

There will be more protective styles this Winter, so stay tuned.

What I Wore

By BrownFace · October 20, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Very simple outfit post today.  This is also some of the last pictures I took of my FAB hair.  I had to take it down last weekend because it needed to be washed.  I miss it so much.  It was so easy and beautiful.  I didn't have to try.

I'm 35 and I'm FLY!

Dress: Zara, Shoes: Enzo Angiolini

Vintage Thrift

By BrownFace · October 18, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I was suffering from a NASTY cold last week, hence my lack of posts.  By the weekend, I was a little better.  Enough to go shopping...lol  Here are two of the pieces I picked up at my local Salvation Army (I picked up a few blouses, not shown).   I love mixing high and low priced items.

Vintage Brown Leather Boots - there is a story behind these.  The boots were priced at $10 and I was more than willing to pay, since I've been looking for a pair of brown boots for FOREVER (so mad that I purchased a pair for $115 online, but they are returnable).  Anywho, I met a friend at the store and she was like NO WAY you're paying that price?!  Talk them down to $5!!!!!  I was too much of a punk, so she grabbed the boots from my hand, took them to the counter, came back to me and said 'They said give them $5.'  I should have gotten my friend's number.  She's my new bestie and I don't even know her name.  Needless to say I'm VERY happy.

There were so many beautiful bags to choose from on the particular day I went.  It's usually a hit or miss?  Not sure if this bag was leather and I didn't asked.  I just could not leave it in the store.  It was only $5, very well-made and very spacious. The straps are uber long, so I can wear it on my shoulders or cross-body.  SCORE on both items.  There was a FAB coat, that I had my eye on, but decided to wait for it to go half off (everyday a particular color is 50% off and Wednesdays most, if not all are half off).

I love my round-the-way THRIFT store.

MAC's Posh Paradise, Fall Colour Collection and Style Driven Haul

By BrownFace · October 7, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

This post is muey late, but...  I was invited to a MAC event mid September to preview new (now old...lol) collections that were coming out.  They called me on my anniversary and it just added an extra OOMPH to my day.  Anywho, my Ride-or-Die makeup friend Stephanie came with.  Check out the pics and the haul video.

Thrifting With Jen

By BrownFace · September 30, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

My sister-from-another-mother Jennifer and I decided to plan a day of thrifting whilst our hubbies went off to hunt amd catch our dinner (they went crabbing and let's say we had enough to feed the whole neighborhood).  So, while the men were away, the wives did what else....SHOP!  We knew we didn't want to spend too much, but also wanted to find faulous pieces to add to our wardrobe.  We decided to drive out to New Jersey to a place called Village Thrift.  I had never been.  Now, I'm from New York and pretty much know how to maneuver department stores and all types of shops, but this is the first time a store had me OVERWHELMED.  IT WAS HUGE! There was so much stuff I didn't know where to begin.  I literally stood around for ten minutes with a blank stare, meanwhile Jen piled things in her cart.  Finally, I snapped out of it and did what I do best....lol

Jennifer aka Jenisha Jenkins...lol

I purchased this fabulous burgundy leather vest that Jen found for me

Jen found these Vince Camuto purple shoes for like eight bucks!  They were in excellent condition.  By the way, we wear the same size shoe.  I really wanted to steal these

I love a great coat.  This one was $10 and yes, I bought it...lol

We found two similar jackets in different colors.  But for some reason the pink one was $20 and the black was only $8 or so?  I didn't get it....

I LOVED this coat, but something was a little off with the fit

I loved this shawl on her

Died and gone to Fashion Heaven after discovering these yellow BCBG shoes for $10

These are just a few pics I took of the store.  It still doesn't show the magnitude.  Picture a warehouse full of clothes.  Can't wait till next time!

Whether you purchase new or love to thrift, STAY FAB FREAKING FIERCE!
